Zaatar is a savoury middle eastern spice blend made with oregano, sumac, toasted sesame and salt.
Za’atar is a culinary staple in the Middle East we use it almost everyday especially to sprinkle on top food and mostly used on breakfast.
The best way to make Zaatar is by using fresh oregano. Wash it and dry it, then place it on a tray for a couple of days until it is completely dry. But if you can’t find fresh oregano, use the dried one. There are different types; I used the jar from Costco business which has a strong smell and a strong flavor, and that’s what you want. You can rub the oregano leaves between your hands or you can use a food processor.
Zaatar has a number of outstanding health benefits, like being able to boost the immune system, improve skin health, build strong bones, improve circulation, clear out the airways, ease inflammation, give you more energy, improve your mood, help you remember things, and treat chronic diseases.
