Ingredients

  • 450 g pasta of your choice I used penne
  • 2 jars pasta sauce
  • 1 jar of pasta sauce filled with water or 2 cups water
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 lb ground beef adjust to your liking
  • 1 small onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tsp oregano
  • 2 tsp salt or to taste
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp chili flakes optional
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup whipping cream optional, for extra creaminess
  • Extra mozzarella for topping if baking

Instructions

  • In a pan, heat olive oil and sauté the onion until soft. Add garlic and cook for another minute.
  • Add ground beef and cook until browned.
  • Season with salt, pepper, oregano, and chili flakes. Mix well.
  • Add pasta sauce and water, stir, cover, and let simmer on low for 10 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, cook pasta in salted boiling water until al dente.
  • Drain the pasta and add it to the sauce.
  • Add Parmesan and mozzarella cheese and mix well. You can serve it as is, or continue to bake it.
  • Transfer the pasta to a baking dish. Pour whipping cream on top for extra creaminess and gently mix.
  • Top with more mozzarella cheese and bake at 400°F (200°C) for about 20 minutes, until bubbly and melted.
  • Serve warm with garlic bread

Notes

  1. You can use any type of pasta, but short pasta shapes hold the sauce best.
  2. Whipping cream or a can of thickened cream (ashta) makes the pasta extra creamy but is optional.
  3. Serve immediately or bake with cheese on top for a cheesy, bubbly finish.
  4. Store pasta and sauce separately to prevent the pasta from drying out.
